Cleric and Dwarf in Ancient Ruins

theo-de-mello-cleric-and-dwarf-on-ancient-ruins-final.jpg

A cleric holds his fallen dwarf companion, one hand cradling him, the other raising a glowing artifact toward the sky in a desperate act of resurrection. The warm light of the relic against the cold blues of the ruins behind them carries the emotional tension of the scene, hope versus loss, in a single frame.

Developed as a card game illustration, with a vertical composition and strong focal point built to read clearly at card scale. The intimacy of the pose, two figures reduced to one small moment inside a crumbling world, was the narrative core of the piece.

The Escaping Bard

theo-de-mello-the-escaping-bard-final.jpg

A rogue bard crouches beneath a market stall, lute in hand, while two guards search the crowd above completely unaware of what's happening two feet below them. The composition splits the frame into two worlds: the oblivious danger on top, the very quiet survival below. Developed as a card game illustration, with a vertical format and strong value contrast between the dark lower half and the bright, busy market above. The tension lives entirely in the gap between the two planes.

A Normal Night on a Tavern

theo-de-mello-a-normal-night-on-a-tavern-rendered.jpg

A spirit erupts inside a tavern, sending patrons scrambling. The glowing teal of the apparition was designed to contrast sharply against the warm interior, a cold intrusion into a warm space, which is exactly what a ghost should feel like.
Developed as a card game illustration, with composition and value structure built to read clearly at small scale. The figure hierarchy  ghost dominant, bystanders in panic communicates the scene instantly, even as a thumbnail.

The Last Stand

theo-de-mello-theo-9elgqvjeq60-twqddturx-ilustra-6-final-final-mesmo-juro.jpg

A wounded cleric kneels in the nave of a church — the last place the hunt will end. Behind him, the vampire looms with quiet menace, one hand raised in a gesture that reads somewhere between a curse and a dismissal. The composition was built around the power imbalance of the scene: the vampire standing, composed, unhurried; the cleric broken but not yet defeated. The cold, desaturated lighting of the church interior contrasts with the faint warmth still emanating from the cleric — the last ember of someone who hasn't given up. The moment depicted is deliberately ambiguous — defeat and defiance look almost identical from this angle.
